Long Time Coming

Long Time ComingLong Time Coming by Robert Goddard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One of the pleasures of reading is discovering a new author whose writing I like. It’s like discovering a seam of gold (I guess)! The title makes it sound as if it could be a risque’ expose’, but it is far from that. This is the third Goddard in as many weeks for me and it delivers most of what I like in a good read – action, variety and the opportunity to learn about new places and events – in this case the non-involvement of Ireland in the Second World War. I don’t think that’s a plot spoiler.

You have to work to keep up with him, with jumps in time and geography woven into complex plots and twists galore. That’s how I try to write my own novels and I would that I were half as good as Goddard. Utterly credible, though the pace does slow at times. It’s not on the absolute page turner shelf for me and get a page-turner-power rating of 7/10.
